TO THOSE WHO STILL
WISH TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS.
Some of you may remember my poor attempt at poetry
last year - 'There was a young man who rang Tisbury Nick and asked
the Coppers to come really quick, they responded at once to the
call '999', but couldn't find his house 'cause he didn't have a
sign'. I know it's bad but it has got a serious message. Are you
confident that if you were faced with an emergency at home and required
either Police, Fire or Ambulance urgently that they would find you?
Recently I spent quite a considerable length of time looking for
a house (luckily it wasn't an emergency call). When I did locate
it, we never give up by the way, I asked the owner if he had ever
considered putting up a house sign. His response was as follows
"No need, I know where it is". You may indeed know where
your house is, the postman probably knows where your house is and
if you do ever need the fire brigade, the smoke may lead them to
you, but what about Police and Ambulance? Could we find you in the
pouring rain in the dead of a winters night? Hopefully you will
never need us but if you do
.?
CHANGE OF PERSONNEL.
All good things must come to an end and it is with
great sadness that I must announce that PC Chris PILLEY the longest
serving officer on the section (by some considerable length of time)
is retiring in September. Chris has done his 30 years and is off
home where he will no doubt sit reminiscing fondly.
PC Graham BRIANT (graham.briant@wiltshire.police.uk) who takes over
Chris's beat (GASPER KILMINGTON, MAIDEN BRADLEY, NORTON FERRIS,
STOURTON, WOLVERTON & ZEALS) has already arrived and will start
his duty at Mere Police Station. Graham has served at Tisbury before
and is returning from a spell working in Salisbury on the City Centre
Unit.
DISTRACTION BURGLARY.
On 26th July a man pretending to be from the Waterboard
called at an elderly lady's bungalow in Tisbury. He stated that
there was a leak in the street and he needed to test her taps. He
then had her turning taps on and off whilst his accomplices were
ransacking the rest of her house. This is without doubt a crime
perpetrated by persons who can only be described as walking detritus.
It is vital that vulnerable people, for it is only vulnerable people
that these vile individuals attack, are warned and protected from
this humiliating and degrading experience. Please look out for elderly
relatives and neighbours; please warn as many people as possible.
Report anything suspicious immediately to the Police. Working together
we can make a difference.
SHED ALARMS AND VALUABLES TINS.
Those of you who have bought shed alarms (100 + so
far) are no doubt sleeping soundly in your beds comforted by the
knowledge that your antique pruning shears and plant pots are safely
guarded. For those of you still waiting delivery, do not lose hope
I will get to you. I now have another crime prevention device to
offer you. This, like the shed alarms, has been bulk purchased by
the Salisbury Crime Prevention Panel and is therefore at a very
good price (£5 each). It is called a 'SAFECAN'. It is designed
as a small place in which to hide cash or valuables. It is in effect
a can with a screw-top lid, and has a normal grocery product label
on it. It comes in various forms, baked beans, peach slices etc.
and apparently you get to choose which label you want! I think it
would be of use to those, who do, through necessity keep quantities
of cash at home. If you would like one or know an elderly relative
or friend who might benefit from one please let me know.

MERE POLICE STATION - RUMOURS OF CLOSURE.
It has been pointed out several times recently by residents
of Mere that the Police House is empty and that the Police
Station is closing down. Sometimes this is followed by much
wailing accompanied by cries of "We're all doomed".
Well let me dispel any rumours about closure. The Police Station
is being sold; however, a brand new Police Station is going
to be built attached to the existing Fire station in White
Road. The final details are still being hammered out but I
can assure the residents of Mere that they will continue to
have a Police Station.
