CHANGES ON THE CARDS AT TISBURY
Sgt Andy Noble who has been the Section Commander
of the Tisbury and Mere Policing area for the past 15 months is
leaving us in July. Now, now, come on hold yourselves together,
stiff upper lip and all that. Sgt Noble has been selected to head
a specialist unit in Salisbury and he will be missed by us all
here at Tisbury. Despite being about as cockney as you can get
(we had trouble understanding him at first!) and having not long
left the Metropolitan Police he was very quick to settle into the
ways of the country and I know he has enjoyed his time on the Section.
We hope you will join us in wishing him well. Replacing him will
be Sgt Kevin Osborne who is currently a Detective Sergeant in Salisbury.
He will arrive soon and I’m sure you will join me in welcoming
him to the best policing area in the county
KNOCK KNOCK! WHO’S THERE? We have received information of what
we call “Antique knockers” being in the area. Basically
they are individuals who carry out their business of ‘antique
dealing’ by calling door to door. They seem to particularly
like calling on elderly people who live alone. Funny that. They
may or may not have a business card and will ask if you have anything
that you may wish to sell. We have had reports of some men walking
past elderly occupants and looking around without invitation. We
have also had occasions in the past when items have been purchased
by these people for cash at a grossly undervalued price. This is
no way to do business and we would ask that if anyone encounters
this sort of caller that they notify us immediately with as much
descriptive detail of any callers and any vehicles that they may
have. Keep an eye out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours. If
in doubt get us out. Straight away!
BEWARE WHAT YOU RECYCLE.
There have been a couple of incidents recently whereby
paper left out for collection has turned up in odd locations. We
should all
be keen to recycle as much as possible and we are able to leave
out paper, glass, plastic etc for collection by the relevant people.
However it has become apparent that some of the waste paper left
out is being collected by people with criminal intent. It is being
picked up before the official collection and searched prior to
being dumped at the roadside. In view of this please be careful
about what you leave out for recycling. Anything with any details
of banks, credit cards etc should be disposed off by an alternative
method or should be shredded before leaving out. If your bank details
etc fall into the wrong hands someone else could be running up
bills on your behalf.
THINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS AS THEY SEEM.
A Police officer was driving along windy country lane when he
saw a motorist travelling in the opposite direction furiously winding
down his window. As he passed our brave officer he shouted ‘PIG’ at
the top of his voice. The Police officer was not going to stand
for that and not recognising the driver looked in his rear view
mirror to get the offensive member of public’s registration
number. He only got as far as reading the first three digits as
that is when he collided with the large Gloucestershire Old Spot
trotting along the road towards him. Come on a smile at the very
least!
