NATIONAL
KNIFE AMNESTY
National knife amnesty? Do we need a knife amnesty
in Tisbury, Mere, Berwick St John, Chilmark? No probably not, but
as with a lot of things these days someone somewhere has decided
that there will be a National Knife Amnesty. I know it’s
aimed at big cities where mad knifemen run amok but look at it
this way: Have you got some old knives that you want to get rid
of but didn’t know how? Well here’s your chance. The
National knife amnesty will run from 24th May (oops that was yesterday)
to the 30th of June. So if you want to get rid of some knives (there
will be no forms to fill in and we don’t need to know who
you are) you can bring them in to the Police Station here at Tisbury
or at Salisbury. Please wrap them up or put them in a box or people
will ring with mad knifeman stories. Incidentally, if you miss
the amnesty your local friendly community Police Officers are always
happy to take knives, guns ammunition etc and dispose of them for
you so nothing has changed really.
NATIONAL SAUSAGE WEEK
Ever been a bit annoyed by the way someone somewhere
suddenly (or not so suddenly) decides that it’s national
sausage week or national barbecue week or national no smoking week
or national stand on your head and whistle Moon River week? No?
Well it annoys me. Who do they (whoever ‘they’ may
be) think they are telling us that it’s this week or that
week? I’ll eat a pork pie when I want one not just when it’s
national pork pie week and when it is national pork pie week I
won’t up my pork pie consumption because of it. So there,
if you are out there ‘they’ stick that in your pipe
and smoke it…….although wait until national pipe
smoking week if you please! Anyway what was all that about I hear
you thinking, not very Policey is it, just a bit of a ramble by
that old berk Steele I hear you mutter. Well if ‘they’ can
do it so can I. This week and every other week after it I have
declared will be ‘NATIONAL DON’T
LEAVE ANYTHING VALUABLE IN YOUR CAR WEEK’
NO-ONE LEFT BUT US ROOSTERS!
Once again there have been changes here at the Tisbury
and Mere Police Section. Charlotte Chambers who was our sole female
representative in uniform and the beat officer for the Mere South
beat and then the Mere North beat has moved on to pastures new.
Well counties new actually as she has transferred to Surrey Police.
At the time of writing she has not been replaced and as such the
beat responsibilities of the Mere North beat are being shared by
the rest of us. We wish Charlotte well in her new job.
ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE.
Between the 9th and the 11th of May this year something
or someone destroyed the nest of a pair of Mute swans on a pond
on the edge of Tisbury. The three eggs were smashed and the nest
was completely destroyed. If this damage was caused by a human
they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. I would like to
appeal to anyone who has any knowledge of how this nest came to
be destroyed to contact me as soon as possible. Any information
will of course be treated in the strictest confidence. If you would
like to pass any information about this matter anonymously please
ring CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.
