GENERAL WARNING MAIL, TEXT, PHONE SCAMS.

I receive reports of scams almost on a daily basis and to mention them all would be impracticable as well as being boring to type and read. Suffice it to say that there will always be someone out there who will be as crafty and as plausible as they can be in order to try and part you from your hard earned cash. They will prey on instincts such as greed and trust to lure you into their sordid little schemes. The only piece of advice I can give you is one that I have repeated numerous times in this bulletin – PEOPLE DON’T JUST GIVE STUFF AWAY FOR NOTHING………….. IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE ………………………………………….wait for it………………………………………. ……………………………………….………………………………

Oh and by the way if you are told that you have won the Canadian/Dutch/Spanish /Mexican/Tisbury Lottery please consider the following. Before you start ripping off your clothes, or march into your bosses office and cast doubts about his parentage, or run out and put a deposit on an Aston Martin or do anything else which may seem a little rash just try and remember if you actually bought a lottery ticket in the first place. Chances are that you didn’t. Guaranteed that you haven’t won a thing.

MOBILE PHONES AND DRIVING – REMINDER.

Did you know that on the 1st of December 2003 a law was passed (now, now, whether you agree with it or not is by the by) forbidding the use of hand held mobile phones whilst driving. This means making or receiving calls or sending text messages and includes using the phone whilst stationary in traffic, at traffic lights for instance.
The penalty is a £30 fixed penalty ticket or a fine upon conviction at court of up to £1000.
Everywhere I go people are complaining that motorists are flouting this law. So come on be sensible, is the phone call that important? Can’t it wait? Can you pull over safely to take the call?
If you are involved in an accident, your fault or not, if you are on a mobile phone everyone is going to blame you.
If you are found at fault and end up in court the judge or magistrate will throw a very large book at you!

BURGLAR CAPTURED BUT LADIES,
YOUR JEWELLERY – WEAR IT OR HIDE IT!

Earlier this year from July to September there was a series of house burglaries in the Salisbury and surrounding area. Following hard work by CID and uniform officers a man was arrested and charged. He admitted committing 59 house burglaries and has been sentenced to serve 6 years behind bars, how long he will serve is another matter, but he is in prison now so a big WHOOPPIEE DOOO!!!!! Most of what he stole was ladies jewellery. He trousered, as a result of these burglaries, £131,000. He was, and probably still is a drug addict with a very expensive habit. Some of the stolen jewellery has been recovered but some is lost forever. I am willing to bet that most ladies reading this bulletin keep their jewellery in a box on their dressing table. I am right, am I not? If you are going to leave jewellery at home please take the trouble to hide it from a burglar. Not in a drawer, they look in all drawers. Not in a cupboard they check those too. No, not in a shoe box or on top of the wardrobe, too easy. Under the bed? Come on, hopeless! They will open every drawer, cupboard, box, bag, suitcase, and case in your bedroom and any others bedrooms.

And finally a true story from up north.

Two officers attended a report of a break-in at a big posh house in Southport. They walked up the long drive to the front door of the house, on the door step was a tatty looking Alsatian dog, but it didn't bother them and they knocked on the door. An old, very well spoken gent answered the door and invited the officers in, and the dog followed them. The gent's wife brought the officers tea and cakes whilst they examined the damaged window and took details of the property that had been stolen. Whilst this was going on the dog had fallen asleep in front of the fire. As the officers were about to leave (the cake was very nice and it was a cold day so they did a proper job) the dog woke up, walked to the middle of a very plush looking rug and proceeded to do a HUGE turd on the rug. The two officers looked on in shock, but neither the old gent nor his wife batted an eyelid! Their work done, the now speechless officers said goodbye and took their leave. As they started down the drive the old gent shouted after them, "excuse me officers, you seem to have forgotten your police dog..."
