Community Police Officer
of the Year Award 2001
Many of you have probably read or heard about PC Mark
Steele's nomination for the above award. It is a national competition
that seeks to promote community policing and to recognise those
officers who have provided their communities with a particular high
level of service. Mark is the first Wiltshire finalist since 1997
and he is too modest himself to let readers know of his success
therefore I have pulled rank and taken over temporary editorship!!
The nomination recognises the initiatives Mark has
been working on for the past 3 years, such as our monthly Community
Bulletin, staddle stone marking & shed alarms. Improvements
to the bulletin this year has seen the use of e-mail to improve
distribution and obtaining sponsorship to guarantee the timely printing.
I must also mention that Mark's success would not
have been achieved without your continued support for his initiatives
and especially for the assistance given in delivering the bulletin
to your friends and neighbours. I thank you all.
I am sure you will also join me in wishing Mark the
best of luck when he attends the awards ceremony at The Merchant
Taylor's Hall in London on 21st November with his wife, Sue, where
he will be joined by the Chief Constable Miss Elizabeth Neville
QPM and finalists from other forces across England & Wales.

Reminder - Tisbury Opening Hours.
Just a quick reminder that we now have a civilian Enquiry Office
Clerk working at Tisbury Police Station. Francesca works from 0900hrs
until 1300hrs from Monday to Friday. Whilst she is at the station
the front door is unlocked and she will answer the phones. If you
do need to contact the Police Station please try when Francesca's
there and she will be able to help you.
When Francesca is not there we try to open the office when we can
and obviously answer the phone if we are in. If we are not in the
answerphone is there for non-urgent messages. Please be patient,
a lady who will remain nameless rang recently and left two messages
on the answerphone, both complaining because there was no Police
Officers to talk to. When we rang her back, yes you've guessed it
we got her answerphone. Need I say more?
A new face in Mere.
Recently arrived on the section from Wilton is PC Paul WILSON. Paul
will be working from Mere Office and will be assisting Dave MILLS
covering the community beat of Mere. Paul will be dealing with most
of the crime in Mere allowing Dave to concentrate on 'Policing the
Community'. Paul is not replacing anyone he is actually an addition
to the establishment.
