JULY 2003
RURAL WATCH LAUNCH.
I mentioned the launch of 'RURAL WATCH' in last month's
bulletin and meetings were held in June in Mere and Tisbury for
those who were interested. Can I firstly say a big thank you to
all of you who did attend, over 50 people attended the two meetings
and that is very much appreciated. I will be contacting members
of Neighbourhood watch, Farmwatch and potential new members over
the next month or so to update the records and co-ordinate things
to try and improve lines of communication. Your help is always appreciated
and I feel sure that Rural Watch will work very well in this area
building on the excellent work you already do in our community.
Remember, we need your help to crack crime and make this area as
safe as an area can possibly be.

ABOUT HOW TO CONTACT US?
'999'
Use this number in cases of EMERGENCY, i.e you fear
for your safety or the safety of another. You believe that someone
is committing, has just committed or is just about to commit a crime.
01722-411444
(Wiltshire Police 24 hour number)
Use this number if you think we should
know about something IMMEDIATELY but it is NOT an emergency.
0800 555 111
(CRIMESTOPPERS)
This number is designed to be used
by people who would like to report suspected criminal activity but
would rather not speak to a Police Officer. You will not be asked
for your name and should your information lead to criminal convictions
you may be liable for a reward which can be paid to you without
compromising your anonymity.
IT IS NOT 24 HOURS AND IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED WHEN PROMPT POLICE
ACTION IS REQUIRED.
Tisbury 01747-870203 / Mere 01747-860268
These are the numbers of your local
Police Stations at Tisbury and Mere. If the answerphone is on it
means the Police Officers on duty are out on patrol or are dealing
with an incident. Only leave a message if it is something that can
wait as it may be several hours before an Officer returns to the
station. If it can't wait please consider one of the other options.
If in doubt ring the Wiltshire Police 24 hour number 01722-411444.
E-mailling your
local Police Officer.
As with the Police Station direct numbers
please do not e-mail us if your information requires prompt action.
We check our e-mails every time we are on duty but we do have days
off now and then and with over 1200 Police Officers in the county
it is impossible for all the mail boxes to be monitored.

sponsored by burglar alarm specialists:

UNSOLICITED
FAXES - WHAT TO DO?
Have you got a fax machine? Do you
get bombarded with unsolicited faxes? Do you feel like warmly shaking
the sender by the throat? Do you think there should be a law against
it? Well good people let me tell you something that you may not
know - there is a law against it! Well a regulation to be exact.
Under the Telecommunications (Data Protection & Privacy) (Direct
Marketing) Regulations 1999 it is unlawful to send an unsolicited
sales or marketing fax to an individual without their prior consent.
Fantastic let's go get 'em, lock them up and throw away the key.
Peace at last. Well not quite, however, you can register (for free)
with the Facsimile Preference Service (FPS). They are an 'opt-out'
scheme run by the Direct Marketing Association and enforced by the
Information Commissioner. You can contact FPS by phone - 020 7291
3330, by fax - 020 7323 4226 or by e-mail fps@dma.org.uk. They also
have a website - www.fpsonline.org.uk.
Any complaints about unsolicited faxes
that you have received may also be directed to them
