GOOD WORK IN TEFFONT
- BURGLARS ARRESTED.
At lunchtime on Friday the 5th of October two burglars
from Somerset arrived in Teffont intent on relieving some local
residents of various articles of property. However they did not
allow for the keen eyes and quick thinking of one local resident.
To spare his blushes I will call him Mr S. When he arrived home
he saw a strange man coming out of his neighbour's front garden.
Upon investigating he found that the house had been burgled. He
immediately rang 999 and reported the matter including a full description
to the Police Control Room. The Control Room called us up on the
radio and we all instantly converged on the village at a rate of
knots. In the mean time our valiant Mr S followed the male and took
the registration number of his getaway car which he also passed
on to the Police Control Room. Minutes later PS Dave Cullop saw
the vehicle at RAF Chilmark and stopped it. A few seconds later
PC Paul Wilson and myself arrived and the extremely disappointed
and bemused thieves, now surrounded, were arrested. Mr S (you know
who you are) - GREAT WORK!
POSTCODING YOUR
PROPERTY - WHY BOTHER?
A while back a strimmer was stolen from a shed behind
an isolated cottage near Kilmington. Some time later our colleagues
in Avon & Somerset Police stopped a well known villain in a
car in Bristol. In the car was a strimmer. The man was at a loss
to explain why he had the strimmer (He was known to be a thief but
not a gardener!). The strimmer was examined and a postcode linking
it to the Kilmington address was found marked on it. Our friend
was arrested and the strimmer was seized. It will be returned to
its owner in due course. Without a postcode marked on it none of
this would have been possible.
But wait; halt your polite applause for the story continues. The
strimmer's owner subsequently had shed alarms fitted to both his
sheds. Last week someone broke into one of the sheds, the alarm
activated, the thief, hopefully scared witless made off empty handed.
The thief in both cases did not have a very good day and no stolen
property is outstanding. And now we can have the full round of applause
accompanied with much whooping and hollering!
VILLAGE HALL VANDAL
NABBED IN SWALLOWCLIFFE
In the early evening of Wednesday the 3rd of October
a 16 year old youth from Shaftesbury made the mistake of smashing
a window in the village hall at Swallowcliffe. Little did he know
that this sort of behaviour would not go unnoticed. Within minutes
the damage was discovered and a full description of the miscreant
was given to PC Jerry Wilkins. Because of the prompt and accurate
reporting by Swallowcliffe residents Jerry was able to swoop on
the offender and arrest him. He had to explain his behaviour to
the youth court a few days later. EXCELLENT WORK TO THOSE CONCERNED.
ZEALS ROAD SIGN
THIEVES CAUGHT.
On the 4th of October two young men stole a road sign
from Zeals. However, a sharp-eyed resident spotted them and a description
of the males, their vehicle and their direction of travel was passed
to the Wiltshire Police Control Room. We were able to pass the description
to Dorset Police who stopped and arrested the offenders a short
time later. They were charged with theft and the sign was returned.
ONCE AGAIN - EXCELLENT WORK!
ZEALS BURGLARY
- UPDATE.
In March this year a house in Zeals was burgled and
amongst the property stolen were some cheque books. Although cancelled
immediately with the bank they were used in several locations in
Somerset. After extensive enquiries in conjunction with CID and
Avon and Somerset Police PC John Bispham arrested a male and a woman
(both from Somerset) on suspicion of the burglary. As a result the
woman was charged with 17 offences of theft and deception.
THE ABOVE STORIES HIGHLIGHT THE
EXCELLENT WORK THAT YOU ARE DOING.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE LIFE DIFFICULT
FOR
ACTIVE CRIMINALS. TOGETHER WE CAN REALLY SPOIL THEIR DAY!
REMEMBER- IF IN DOUBT, GET US OUT & DON'T DELAY OR THEY'LL GET
AWAY!
REMINDER - NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

NOVEMBER IN THE OLD MAGISTRATES COURT NEXT TO
TISBURY POLICE STATION 7.30PM - EVERYONE IS WELCOME.
SPEED CHECKS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT.
There are now 4 officers working on the section
who are trained in the use of the speed detection equipment. Nearly
every Parish complains of speeding motorists driving through their
village. Speed checks will therefore likely to be more frequent.
Please remember that we are not doing it to annoy everyone we are
doing it to make the roads as safe as possible. You have been warned,
please pay attention to the speed limits, they are there for a reason.
Recent speed check points have been at the following locations:
Hindon Lane Tisbury, Castle Road Mere, B3089 at Teffont, A30 at
Ludwell and High Street Zeals. You have been warned!
