TAMPER-PROOF CAR TAX HOLDERS.

I will shortly be getting in a stock of 'Tamper-proof' car tax holders. They seal the tax disc inside plastic so that it can not be altered. The holder, which sticks firmly to the windscreen, has a nice warning notice on it which should deter any would be thief. They cost £1, yes that's right only £1. You do however, need a new one every time you re-tax your vehicle but I think it is worth it. So much so that I now proudly display one on my own car. A stock will be kept at Tisbury Police Station and will be available to purchase at the front office. The office is open from 9am until 1pm Monday to Friday but it is best to ring first to avoid disappointment.

MOBILE PHONE THEFT - KNOW THE SERIAL NUMBER?

Did you know that each mobile phone has its own individual serial number? It is a 15 digit number called an IMEI number. Don't ask me what IMEI stands for though, as I don't know. Any ideas?
Anyway this number can be accessed by keying *#06# into your phone. It may also be found under the battery on your phone. It is a very good idea to write this down and keep it somewhere safe. The reason for this is twofold. Firstly if you do have your mobile stolen it would give us a chance to recover it. (I know you would probably have a nice shiny brand new replacement but if we can identify it as stolen we can then probably identify someone as a thief!) Secondly should your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card your phone will be totally useless to him (or her of course). If everybody did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones!
Apparently this is true for all handsets regardless of make. We do have special 'Protect your phone' leaflets in the front office at Tisbury Police Station if you are interested.

NUMBER 200 WHERE ARE YOU?

I currently have 188 people on my bulletin e-mail list. I know there are lots more of you internet users out there. WINTERS-A-COMING, BE CAREFUL.

After a much enjoyed dry September the first of the predictable winter rain came on the 1st of October. The roads, which had been bone dry for several weeks, instantly became slippery and unfortunately we were inundated with the inevitable road traffic accidents. Some were relatively minor but some had disastrous consequences and tragicly some people lost their lives.
Please remember that if the roads are wet you must alter your driving accordingly. Cut your speed, brake earlier and more smoothly, and slow down going round corners. If you find that you have to rush somewhere because you are going to be late consider the following advice. Either leave earlier or just resign yourself to the fact that you are going to be late. It's better to be late than risk having an accident.

The phrase 'Speed Kills' is not nonsense, it really does.
